A TikTok post that has garnered over 11 million views claims to be able to help people sleep in just two minutes.
The trick is known as the 'Military Technique', as it was supposedly formulated to help pilots fall asleep in two minutes or less.
The way it works is by helping to relax the muscles throughout your body and then thinking about a peaceful scene after your body has relaxed.
If that doesn't work, repeating "don't think" for 10 seconds seems to work.
Dave Gibson, from sleep wellness brand Eve Sleep, reveals if this technique is real and effective.
He said:
"This technique makes sense to a point, as by relieving any tension in the body, you allow your mind and body to completely relax, which will certainly aid in falling asleep."
The technique advises the use of visualization which tends to be a good way to focus the mind away from the stresses of the day.
However, if that doesn't work, the next tip is to repeat the term "don't think", which, again, won't work for everyone. Why? Because "turning off the mind" and actively trying not to think can be difficult and is not something that can be done easily, at least not for everyone.
Often, your mind is likely to do the opposite, due to the pressure of trying not to think.
"All the elements of the technique cannot do 'magic' or put you to sleep in 10 seconds. But, with practice, you can sleep faster and more soundly!"
The main tip when using the technique is to take deep breaths, as this helps to slow down the heart rate and relax the nervous system.
