Plane crash in Washington, what the investigation says

Investigators have recovered the flight data recorders, also known as black boxes, from an American Airlines plane that collided with a US military helicopter over the Potomac River near Washington DC.
The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) said it has "a lot of information, but needs time to verify it" and a preliminary report will be released in 30 days.
All 64 passengers on the regional plane and three military crew members died in the accident.
President Donald Trump earlier expressed his condolences, saying "our hearts are broken" over Wednesday night's incident.
In an audio, air traffic controllers can be heard asking the helicopter crew if they can see the plane.
Plane crash, Trump; "We have some strong suspicions about the motive for the tragedy"

Donald Trump appeared before the cameras in the White House press room on Thursday to speak about the plane crash.
He said the country was in mourning, and expressed his condolences to the families of the victims.
He then stressed that his new presidency will be very different. He said that work will be done quickly to resolve the issue.
"We don't know what caused this accident, but we have some very strong leads and suspicions," he said.
He then speculated that low recruitment standards for air traffic controllers at the Federal Aviation Administration during the presidencies of Joe Biden and Barack Obama may have been a factor in this disaster.
Hamas military chief killed

Hamas, the Palestinian group designated a terrorist organization by the United States and the European Union, has confirmed the killing of Mohammed Deif, the head of its military wing.
The confirmation from the Palestinian radical group comes six months after Israel announced his killing. Israel said Deif was killed during airstrikes in southern Gaza in July 2024.
Deif had long been the leader of Hamas's military wing, and Israel has said he was one of the architects of the October 7, 2023 attack on Israel, which sparked the 15-month war in Gaza.
