For the third time in the last five years, Vienna (Austria) is ranked first in the Global Living Index, an annual report by the Economist Intelligence Unit.
The top ten rankings were dominated by Western European cities, which make up half of the list. After Vienna, Copenhagen (Denmark) is in second place, followed by Zurich (Switzerland) and Calgary (Canada), both in third place. Top10 is completed by:
5. Vancouver (Canada)
6. Geneva (Switzerland)
7. Frankfurt (Germany)
8. Toronto (Canada)
9. Amsterdam (Netherlands)
10. Osaka (Japan)
10. Melbourne (Australia; draw with Osaka)

The report says that medium-sized cities in richer countries tended to perform extremely well in the survey.
