The lead singer of the winning group of the Eurovision Song Contest, Kalush Orchestra, went to his hometown to serve Ukraine.

Rapper Oleg Psiuk kissed his girlfriend in Turin before taking his belongings in a taxi and leaving for the airport, reports The Telegraph.

"Our culture is under attack. We wanted to introduce our music to the world. I wrote the Eurovision song for my mom before the war - but then, it started to take on a different meaning for different people," he said.

"I will return home after running a volunteer organization that helps refugees with food, shelter and medical care. I will continue to do so. We will look forward to Eurovision in a newly built and happy Ukraine."

In the wake of Saturday's victory, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky vowed that the city of Mariupol, which has been devastated by heavy bombardment by Vladimir Putin's troops, will host the festival next year.
