Putin warns Finland: Joining NATO would be a big mistake
Russian President Vladimir Putin has warned his Finnish counterpart that joining NATO and leaving the country from neutral status would be "wrong". He addressed Saul Niinistö, telling him that there is no kind of threat to Finland's security. The exchange of conversations came during a phone call made by the Finnish president, before an official request finland is expected to announce very soon.
Sweden has also clearly shown its intention to join the Western alliance, since the Russian attack in Ukraine.
Finland shares 1,300 km (810 miles) border with Russia. So far, it has stayed out of Nato to avoid conflicts with the eastern neighbour. Putin did not make a specific threat regarding Finland's move, but the Russian Foreign Ministry has expressed that there will be retaliation.
As of yesterday, Russia cut off its electricity supply to Finland. Finnish authorities said they could succeed even after the break-up as Russian energy supply takes little place in total consumption and the impacts are almost unaccountable.
10 dead inside a New York supermarket
An 18-year-old man is the main suspect who fatally shot 10 people in a New York neighborhood where people of color live mostly. The crime has so far been commented on as a racially motivated attack and occurred at one of the area's supermarkets.
The suspect entered the store on Saturday afternoon before opening fire. He even filmed and posted the entire event online on social media himself. U.S. President Joe Biden condemned the act by calling it disgusting. In total, about 30 people were shot and most of the victims were people of color. According to the first witnesses and investigations, the author was prepared for the crime committed as much as he had thought of the details of the macabre scene recording.
Right to abortion: Americans protest!
Thousands of right-to-abortion supporters have been protesting since Saturday across America, and organizers said marches will continue throughout the summer if the Supreme Court overthrows the "Roe vs. Wade" case that legalized abortion nationwide.
Planned Parenthood, Women's March and other abortion rights groups organized more than 400 marches Saturday, with the largest expected turnout in Neë York, Washington, Los Angeles and Chicago.
The revolt is a kind of reaction to preliminary ideas and opinions that have been circulating since May 2, where the court's conservative majority presented arguments for reversing the landmark 1973 decision that defined the federal constitutional right to terminate the pregnancy.
The court's final decision, which could give states the power to ban abortion, is expected to be made in June. About half of U.S. states can significantly ban or restrict abortion if the Supreme Court rescinds the decision protecting the right to abortion.
Ukraine wins Eurovision, President Zelensky: 'Next year I'll see you in Mariupol'
Ukrainian band Kalush Orchestra won the first prize at the Eurovision Festival.
The rap-folk music group, which was given special permission to leave the war-torn country received 631 points in a symbolic show of public support, following Russia's invasion of the country.
At the end of their performance in the final held in Turin, the group called for prayers for help to Ukraine and especially Mariupol and the area of the Azovostal steel plant where ukrainian soldiers and citizens are still trapped.
Such a victory entitles Ukraine to host Eurovision in its country next year. Although the situation is currently critical, Zelensky said Ukraine will succeed that by 2023, the festival will be organized and displayed in the rebuilt Mariupol.
