Actor Johnny Depp wrapped up his testimony in the trial against Amber Heard in court in Virginia.
Depp answered questions about some text messages exchanged in 2013 with British actor Paul Bettany.
In November 2013, Depp sent a message to actor Paul Bettany saying, "Let 's burn Amber." On the same day, he sent another message: “Let us kill him before we burn him! "I will rape her burnt body to make sure she is dead."
Asked about the messages, Depp said they were "live" from a Monty Python sketch about burning and strangling witches (Monty Python, British troupe of surrealist comedy). "This is a movie we all saw when we were 10 - it's just inappropriate and abstract humor," he said.
The actor said he was ashamed of the messages and that they were an attempt to make fun of him.
Depp was also asked if Amber Heard was the only one who had problems with his alcohol abuse.
"Sir, if anyone had a problem with my drink, at any point in my life, it was me," he replied. "The only person I have abused in my life is me."
Johnny Depp has sued his ex-wife Amber Heard for an essay she wrote in 2018 for the Washington Post in which she described herself as a "public figure representing domestic abuse." Depp told the court he has suffered for six years because of Heard's actions and his career has been damaged. In lengthy responses, the actor categorically denied having hit Heard.
