A few weeks before the end of the 5-year term of President Ilir Meta, one of the most discussed topics in the field of politics is related to the person selected for the post.
The TV space devoted to names from various fields, where a good part of them have declared themselves presidential candidates, may have caused confusion for many people, in whose approach it is more common and perhaps more acceptable that the post of the president to be entrusted to a political figure.

As we said, names like Sazan Guri, Selami Jenisheri, Genard Hajdini have declared themselves candidates. Elena Kocaqi , historian, has also openly expressed her desire to be president of the Republic. Who can be president?
According to Article 86 of the Constitution of the Republic of Albania, only an Albanian citizen by birth, who has lived in Albania for at least the last 10 years and has reached the age of 40, can be elected president. But these criteria are not enough for someone to be a candidate. How is it solved?
For a candidacy to be considered valid, no less than 20 deputies must propose it to the Assembly. For the election of the president, the Assembly holds up to five votes.
The President is elected in the first, second or third ballot when a candidate receives not less than three-fifths of the votes of all members of the Assembly. In the fourth and fifth ballot, the candidate who secures more than half of the votes of all members of the Assembly is elected president. The fifth ballot takes place when in the fourth ballot no candidate has secured the required majority of votes. The fifth ballot takes place only between the two candidates who received the most votes in the fourth ballot. In case there are more than two candidates with the same number of votes, the candidate who participates in the voting is determined by lot.
Who is being talked about?
The next president or president is unlikely to be from the Socialist Party, because a more "neutral" president would make it easier to agree with the opposition. But Socialist Party figures are not excluded, who may have generally had a non-conflicting relationship with the current opposition.
