"CODA" - a film that focuses on deaf people and their efforts to understand the world - was announced the winner of the "Best Film" award at the Oscars 2022.
Directed by Sian Heder, "CODA" was also nominated for "Best Actor in a Non-Protagonist Role" and "Best Adapted Screenplay", where it was also announced winner at these awards.
Actor Troy Kotsur made history as the first actor (man) to win an Oscar. Actress Marlee Matlin, who also starred in "CODA", was the first in the deaf community to win an Oscar in 1987 for "Best Actress" for her role in "Children of a Lesser God".
At the center of the film is a family where both parents (Troy Kotsur and Marlee Matlin) try to understand the dreams of the teenage girl, Ruby (Emilia Jones) who wants to become a singer.
"CODA" is based on the 2014 French film, "La Famille Bélier".
