Time is a constant arrow, but our concept of it is divided into past, present and future. By nature, some people tend to stop in the past. Others live in the moment, and dreamers live with an eye to the future. Who are you? The answer can help predict whether or not you will act on your thoughts to quit your job.
How time concepts can persuade someone to resign
It may happen that people who talk about the past constantly dig into the injustices of the past, hold grudges longer, and quit their jobs thinking (or saying), "Get away with all your work!"
On the other hand, careless souls living in the moment tend to be more impulsive and more endangered. After all, leaving a job requires accepting an unknown risk. Perhaps these happy types are more likely to leave without a second thought. "See you!"
And then there are the planners; people who are always looking ahead, thinking, plotting, striving for the better: “I have to go. The future is waiting for me! ”
Only one is the correct answer - at least, according to the results of this new study. In this study, researchers surveyed 683 full-time employees from a wide range of industries and used a psychological test to assess each person in which of the three ways of thinking about time they tended to have.
They also identified several other demographic and psychological factors to check for other variables and to look for overlaps between these factors.
Six months later, the researchers surveyed the same group of people again and asked if they were considering leaving the job within the year. The data clearly suggest that the way a person thinks about time indicates whether a person will leave or not.
Previous studies have found that people who focus on the present tend to have a more positive interpretation of their experiences and higher levels of well-being and life satisfaction. This satisfaction and positive outlook may explain why they are less likely to quit their job.
People who tend to think about the future, imagining and planning their personal and professional lives, are more likely to have already thought ahead to accept their current employment, and thus they may be less likely to abandon their plan. of life and leave work. Other research shows that such people are less likely to exhibit risky behaviors and they tend to be more conscious.
