The fourth round of official talks between Russia and Ukraine - held today via video conference - will focus on reaching a ceasefire, securing the withdrawal of Russian troops and establishing security guarantees for Ukraine, said Ukrainian negotiator Mykhailo Podolyak. as both sides gave positive assessments of progress.
Podolyak has previously said that Russia "has started to speak constructively" and he thinks that "we will achieve some results literally within a few days". A Russian delegate, Leonid Slutsky, also said that the daily contact between the two teams had allowed considerable progress and that draft agreements could be possible soon.
Mykhailo Podoliak, an adviser to the Ukrainian president, wrote on Twitter that Moscow had stopped issuing "ultimatums" to Kiev and began "listening carefully to our proposals."
The President of Ukraine, Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said that the purpose of the "difficult negotiation work" was to hold a meeting between him and the President of Russia, Vladimir Putin, with the ultimate goal of "Ukraine getting the necessary result for peace and security".
