Not a few people may think that a large country, say the United States of America, might be the most visited country in the world - but in fact they are wrong.
France ranks first, followed by Spain in second place and the United States in third place, according to data from the World Tourism Organization.
About 90 million international visitors traveled to France in 2019 and tourism accounts for 8% of the country's gross domestic product, according to the French Foreign Ministry.
France can be easily traveled from European countries, while the mountains, wineries, famous sights and magnificent coasts have made it the first choice for many international tourists.
People are also drawn to the culture, cuisine, country beauties, French Riviera, famous romantic Paris and many other impressive destinations.
The top 10 most visited in the world before the pandemic (year 2019) were:
1. France
2. Spain
3. United States of America
4. China
5. Italy
6. Turkey
7. Mexico
8. Thailand
9. Germany
10. United Kingdom
