During a court hearing for the separation of the former couple, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West, the judge accepted Kardashian's request to be declared legally single, confirms People. The 41-year-old appeared via video conference for the hearing, while West, 44, did not attend.
The decision comes almost three months after she asked the judge to change her marital status. West previously opposed the ex-wife's request to declare herself legally single.
Kardashian and West's lawyers did not respond to a request for comment from People.
Kardashian and West got married in 2012 and got married in May 2014. They have four children: North, 8, Saint, 6, Chicago, 4, and Psalm, 2.
Their marriage initially plunged into crisis at the height of the West's public outbursts in 2020 after he launched a controversial offer for president of the United States and revealed deeply personal details about his family and marriage on the campaign trail and on Twitter. At the time, Kardashian spoke about his diagnosis of bipolar disorder in a rare public statement, urging fans to "sympathize" and acknowledging their "complicated and painful" situation.
Kardashian then filed for divorce from West in February 2021 after nearly seven years of marriage. Months later, in December, she sought to declare herself legally single. Kim also demanded that child custody and property issues be separated from her marital status, as well as that the maiden name be returned to her.
In the latest court documents, filed on February 23, Kardashian said:
"I really want to get divorced. I asked Kanye to keep our divorce private, but he did not do it. Kanye has given a lot of misinformation about private family matters and co-parenting on social media has created emotional unrest."
