Towards the end of the pandemic? The WHO advises that international travel

International travel bans should be eased or lifted altogether, according to the latest recommendations from the World Health Organization (WHO).

The WHO has issued a statement discussing the effectiveness of the travel ban and whether it should be repealed.

Travel bans "are not effective in preventing international spread (as clearly shown by Omicron's experience)," the statement said.

Consequently, the WHO's new advice is for states to "lift or ease international traffic bans, as they offer no added value and continue to contribute to the economic and social stress" of some states.

Instead of banning international travel, it is said that there should be "travel measures" to control the spread of the virus.

"Measures such as masking, testing, isolation / quarantine and vaccination reduce the risk and will avoid placing a financial burden on international travelers," the WHO wrote.

We remind you that the WHO has recently stated that Covid-19 may end this year if no unexpected scenarios appear or problems with vaccines and medicines are resolved quickly.
