The Omicron variant may be 105% more transmissible than Delta, recent research by some French scientists suggests.
Euroneas reports that the researchers used statistical models to assess the transmission of the Omicron variant in France using specific variant screening tests and complete genome sequencing.
The study, which was published on the medRxiv website and has not yet been reviewed by experts in the field, analyzed 131,478 tests in France from October 25 to December 18, 2021.
The results showed that in young people, the prevalence of infection with the Omicron variant or the Alpha variant was higher than that of the Delta variant.
Based on these findings, the researchers compared the virus in humans infected with the Omicron or Alpha variant to the transmissibility in humans with the Delta variant over a 21-day period. The difference was approximately 105%.
