Silva Bino, chief of Epidemiology and Infectious Diseases at the Institute of Public Health has listed some of the main reasons why it is important to get the third dose of the vaccine.
In the video published by the Ministry of Health, Bino says that all those who received the second dose of the vaccine 6 months ago, should be vaccinated with the third, as immunity begins and decreases.
"All citizens who have taken the second dose 6 months ago must definitely take the third dose. It is important for the fact that immunity to Covid-19, caused by the vaccine starts and decreases. "This is not the first time this has happened, because for a series of infectious diseases, vaccination calendars are created based on experience," she said.
Having said that, Bino compared it to the experience of other vaccines that are injected according to a calendar.
"For example, for tetanus we are vaccinated 6-7 times. We are vaccinated 5 times for polio. For other diseases we are vaccinated several times. This is because immunity starts and goes down and needs boosting doses. The third booster dose provides us with severe forms of the disease and has a significant impact on the non-occurrence of infection. The booster dose reduces the duration of retention of the virus. If a vaccinated person becomes infected, they show no clinical signs and transmit the virus less. "The third boosting dose has a number of things that make this pandemic go away and we get back into our lives."
