Unsmoke Island is called the new space at the Artificial Lake Park of Tirana, for all citizens who want to enjoy really fresh air during afternoon or weekend walks.
The space, built with the support of Philip Morris International in collaboration with the Municipality of Tirana and the Parks and Recreation Agency, aims to raise awareness about the importance of eliminating smoke from our lives, for ourselves and for the environment.
"The symbolism of this flower island in the middle of the green lungs of Tirana, is the removal from any form of smoke in our lives," said Anis Brahimi Treni, Communication Representative of Philip Morris International in Albania, "Using bicycles instead of motor vehicles, oxygen instead of pollution and air instead of cigarette smoke. ”
Unsmoke Island is part of an international campaign by Philip Morris International to raise awareness among people to eliminate cigarette smoke, the leading cause of damage to health and the environment.
"This was also an inspiration for adult smokers, their friends and family, to quit smoking. "The real stories of the people around us are the impetus to make this movement part of our smoke-free lives," said Anis Brahimi Treni.
Tirana Deputy Mayor for Sustainability Development Anuela Ristani recalled how once the same space was neglected and often used for burning.
"Even more symbolic is this space when we think that here used to be an area occupied by smoke. Today, it is a completely smoke-free space of the "lungs of Tirana".
To fully fulfill the message for a smoke-free future, Unsmoke Island is equipped with new parking spaces for bicycles and new benches to enjoy the green view, recently also decorated with flowers.
