People may need a fourth vaccine for Covid-19 sooner than expected, Pfizer CEO recently said.
Albert Bourla told CNBC that preliminary research shows that the Omicron variant could damage the protective antibodies created by the vaccine produced by Pfizer and BioNTech.
Pfizer announced that three doses could offer protection against the new variant and in March 2022 could launch an improved vaccine if needed.
"A third dose will provide a very good defense I believe," said Bourla, who said it was still unclear at the moment when a fourth dose might be needed.
Bourla also said he predicts new variants will appear in the future and that the company is monitoring to see if it will be necessary to change vaccines.
