We all know that friendship is a very broad concept, so when we talk about "friendly states" we are talking about those cases where the neighbors may greet you from time to time, the waiters may smile at you (but this will not says they want to be friends with you).
That said, InterNations - the largest global migrant network - has set up an Expat Insider guidance platform . They have talked to immigrants around the world to find out more about their livelihood. In a report of 59 countries, Expat Insider 2021 reveals more (and less) life-friendly states.
Which is the friendliest country in Europe?
According to the 12,000 people who took part in the poll, Portugal ranks at the top of all European countries when it comes to friendship. The Iberian Peninsula also ranked high in the "how to be at home" category, ranking second.
Three other countries appeared in the top 20: Greece in eighth place, Ireland in 16th and Spain in 20th place.
Meanwhile, on a global scale, Taiwan was ranked as the friendliest country of all.
What about less friendly?
The country with the worst performance was Austria in 58th place, followed by Denmark, Sweden, the Czech Republic and Switzerland.
When it comes to finding friends, the Nordic countries are not seen as very friendly. Sweden, Denmark, Norway and Switzerland are ranked as the "worst", followed closely by Austria and Germany.
