In beauty contests for humans, the governing bodies of the race do not have any specific restrictions on plastic or cosmetic surgery, although natural features are preferred. But the rules change for camel competitions.
Authorities in Saudi Arabia disqualified more than 40 "improved" camels from the annual competition, according to the state-run press agency.
The camels disqualified in the competition, at King Abdulaziz's camel festival, had botox and other artificial interventions. The popular festival, which started this month, invites the most beautiful camel breeders to compete for about $ 66 million.
Botox injections, face lifts and other cosmetic changes to make camels more attractive are strictly forbidden, reports the Guardian. The juries decide on the winners based on the shape of the head, neck, bumps, clothing and posture of the animals.
This year, authorities discovered that dozens of breeders had changed camel lips and noses, used hormones to strengthen muscles, injected botox into lips and heads to make them bigger.
Camel breeding is an important industry and similar organizations are developed throughout the region.
