WhatsApp plans to add a new feature to messages, which will allow users to set a specific time when they want the messages to be deleted automatically.
WhatsApp says users will have the option to activate when messages should disappear for all conversations automatically from the platform.
WhatsApp notes that activating the option for missing messages will not affect existing conversations. When you start a new conversation, a notification will appear stating that the missing messaging feature has been activated, along with a note stating that it is already enabled by default, so your contacts do not have to think that it is something personal. You also have the option of disabling the option for individual conversations.
A UK-based children's organization, the National Association for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC), said the move was "little thought out" and would create a "toxic risk cocktail". According to them, they pose a risk to children and are less likely to be detected.
"This ill-conceived decision will enable offenders to quickly delete evidence of child abuse, making it even more difficult for law enforcement to prosecute them and protect children."
