"Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them" star Eddie Redmayne has described his role in the drama "The Danish Girl" as "a mistake", adding that he would now have played the role.
In an interview with the Sunday Times, Redmayne agreed that the criticism she received for the film was justified: "I made that film with the best of intentions, but I think it was wrong."
In "The Danish Girl", published in 2015, Redmayne played the role of Lili Ilse Elvenes (known as Lili Elbe), a Danish painter (born male) and one of the first to undergo surgery to change sex. lbe passed away in 1931, after her fourth operation.
The film was criticized for the fact that Eddie Redmayne portrayed Lili and the producers failed to find a trans actor. In November 2015, Redmayne defended the role by saying, "I hope someone should be able to play any kind of role if they play it with a sense of integrity and responsibility."
