Baby name experts predict trend names for the coming decades

Baby name experts often make their own predictions as to which names will be known in a year or two. But experts at Nameberry - a website known for baby names - decided to take forecasting even further in the next three decades.

"Our first book 'Beyond Jennifer & Jason' came out in 1988 and so we've predicted trends since then - trends like names ending in O, nature names, unisex names - names that all became known.

Pamela Redmond, co-founder of Nameberry, told HuffPost: "So we challenged ourselves to do the same with the 2020 list. We chose 30 years ago."

To identify the most popular names of the future, Nameberry editors reviewed thousands of names given to less than 25 babies born in 2020. They chose 10 unusual names for girls and boys they think they will be most popular in the coming years.

"We've seen generational changes in terms of names, and we found that many trend names today were extremely rare a generation ago, in 1990 U.S. statistics," Redmond said.

She noted that she expects that most people who read the list will not like the names, as later generations tend to choose names that their parents would not like.
