For Hwang Dong-hyuk, the creator and director of "Squid Game", the man who long ago was knocking and spent time writing the script of the series in cafes, shooting "Squid Game" was not easy.
"After growing up, I wondered what it would be like to go back and play childhood games again?" he told CNN.
For Hwang, "Squid Game" reflects the "competitive society" in which we live today.
"This is a story for the losers," he said - for those who struggle with the challenges of everyday life and are left behind as the "winners rise to the top".
The production of "Squid Game" was an intense experience, with Hwang losing six teeth during filming due to stress, but he does not completely rule out the idea of ??making a second season.
The director also added that two of the main characters, Seong Gi-hun and Cho Sang-woo, who are named in honor of his old friends, represent "his inner clones".
"They represent my two sides. Like Gi-hun, I grew up from a single mother in a financially troubled environment in Ssangmun-dong," he explained to CNN. "At the same time, as Sang-woo, I went to Seoul National University and the whole neighborhood praised me and had high expectations of me."
The series is number one in 90 countries, including the US, and will likely be Netflix's most popular production.
