"La Casa de Papel" is currently the most successful show in Netflix history in the non-English language category, but it looks like this place will soon belong to another series.
Netflix co-director Ted Sarandos told a news conference that "Squid Game," which premiered on September 17, will definitely be the most successful non-English language series. That would put Squid Game ahead of La Casa de Papel (Money Heist).
Sarandos added that there is "a great opportunity that will be our greatest show of all time". By "big" he refers to the number of people who have seen him.
"Squid Game" is a k-drama (Korean language series produced in South Korea) that tells the story of a group of 456 people who are invited to risk their lives in a mysterious survival game for $ 38.7 million.
Data from Parrot Analytics, which measures viewer demand, confirm that the series has gained global popularity. As of September 25, "Squid Game" was the second most-watched series in the world, shortly after "Sex Education."
"Squid Game" has a 100% rating from Rotten Tomatoes critics and 87% from the audience.
