New Zealand, Iceland, the United Kingdom, Tasmania and Ireland are the best places to survive a global social collapse, according to a study.
A collapse could develop from shocks, such as a severe financial crisis, the effects of the climate crisis, the destruction of nature, an even worse pandemic than Covid-19 or a combination of these, scientists said.
To assess which countries would be more resilient to such a collapse, the countries were ranked according to their ability to produce food for the population, protect borders from unwanted mass migration, maintain a power grid and some skills manufacturing.
Billionaires are reportedly buying land for bunkers in New Zealand in preparation for an apocalypse. "We were not surprised that New Zealand was on our list," said Prof. Aled Jones, at the Global Institute for Sustainability, Ruskin Anglia University, UK.
The study, published in the journal Sustainability , says: "The global, highly energy-intensive industrial civilization that characterizes the modern age represents an abnormal situation because it is considered against most human history."
1% of the world - the billionaires - have long been preparing for the "apocalypse". Many companies are trying to meet their demand to have a structure that protects them from any danger, be it pandemic, asteroid or World War III.
