If you are one of those people who strictly respects punctuation marks, you are to be appreciated, but we have to tell you that you should probably make an exception when texting and communicating with people close to you (because obviously not we are talking formal communications).
We are talking about messages when you associate texts with dots at the end. Some reasons why you can avoid them are:
1. You look less honest.
"See you there!!!" vs "See you there."
In the first case, the sentence seems more honest - as if you are really looking forward to meeting someone. In the second case, a cool tone of communication is conveyed. A study by several psychologists from Binghamton University found that pointless messages are perceived as more sincere. If you definitely want to use punctuation at the end, you can replace it with an exclamation mark to look happier or add emojis after the dot.
2. You look passive-aggressive.
While it may not be your goal, a short dot with a dot at the end may seem passive-aggressive. The end point seems to mean something very final, cut. Since it is about virtual communication and the last sentence of a multi-sentence text, the dot is of no use because it clearly understands where the text ends.
3. You look indifferent.
We can not see each other when we exchange messages, so since we lack this data, we guess about the tone of communication or the mood of the other. Dotted answers at the end seem less enthusiastic, as if closing the discussion.
4. You look very formal.
Using dots can make the message look like an email. So very official.
