At the last conference, the Technical Committee of Experts pointed out that there is a slight increase in Covid infections and said that the Delta variant, recently confirmed, has a nationwide spread, however the epidemiological situation remains stable.
"The Delta variant has already been officially confirmed in Albania. The samples sent [for investigation] were from several regions of the country, which shows that the virus is widely circulated in Albania, "said Dr. Mira Rakacolli.
Regarding the restrictive measures, Dr. Rakacolli said:
"The Committee of Experts thinks that despite the fact that the suspicion of the Delta variant has been confirmed in Albania, the protection is the same and the level of measures has no objective reason to change. The measures to keep the situation under control will be the same as they have been. Despite the circulation of the Delta variant and despite the fact that this variant has a higher infectivity, the protection against this variant is the same. "We can very well protect ourselves if we implement the measures."
She added that the only way to protect against this new variant is vaccination.
"It has been proven that vaccination protects against loss of life, from hospitalization, and it is proven that all types of vaccines protect equally."
