For a healthy lifestyle, it would be good to occasionally turn to the practices of the longest-lived people on the planet. Known as the Blue Zones (Ikaria, Greece; Loma Linda, California; Sardinia, Italy; Okinawa, Japan; Nicoya, Costa Rica) and because of lifestyle, climate and other factors, studies show that people in these countries live longer tall.
Dan Buettner, author and explorer of a lot of longevity research, told Well & Good about the morning practices of the world's longest-lived people.
1. Find your ikigai
When you wake up in the morning, what gets you out of bed? Finding the reason why you get out of bed and embracing this reason is one of the most common habits of people in the Blue Zones. The Japanese concept of "ikigai" is related to the desire to discover what ignites your soul and keeps you motivated. According to the Blue Zones, having a goal is related to longevity; literally gives you a reason to get out of bed in the morning.
2. Healthy breakfast
A healthy diet is an important part of longevity. Part of this includes breakfast.
Enjoy a cup of coffee in the morning
People living in each of the five Blue Zones enjoy a cup of coffee every morning. "[People in these areas] drink up to two or three cups of coffee a day," according to Buettner. Just do not overdo it with sugar.
4. Say something nice to the first person you see
In addition to eating a healthy breakfast (full of fruits and cereals) and 20-minute workouts (usually yoga or cycling to work), Buettner starts each morning by complimenting others. In addition to positive emotions for others, create and cultivate a healthy social life.
