According to Bloomgberg, the number of victims from Covid will be higher during 2021 than a year ago and the main reason for this is the immediate increase in cases in India. On Sunday morning alone, April 25, 349,691 cases and 2767 victims were reported, although the true figures are said to be many times higher. In the country of 1.37 billion people, in the last 7 days the figures have tripled, compared to two weeks ago.
Variant B.1.617, which is not yet well understood, has characteristics associated with higher levels of infection and lower antibody resistance, and it is thought that this type of virus has spread widely in the country. Vaccine supplies, hospital beds, and even oxygen supplies are running low, leading to heated debates between states and the federal government. In some places, the dead are being transported by truck because cities have run out of cars. Elsewhere, crematoria have begun to fall into disrepair due to the large number of cremated bodies, which has caused some of the victims to be cremated in the middle of the city.
The country is currently in critical need of oxygen, which is said to be being sold on the black market as well. The government today promised vaccines for all people over the age of 18. If no action is taken, the country expects to have at least 3,000 deaths a day.
