Recognitions over the past year have been a bit difficult. In 2021 there are no rules for "dating" and the best thing is to follow intuition, but when should you stop dating more than one person? If you have found someone you really like, when should you "turn away" others?
Online dating expert Benjamin Daly says that as long as you are safe, it is good to go out with some people. He compares it to finding a job, saying "you see what is available, until you finally find something worthwhile to commit to".
"The cycle of meetings from match to conversation in the first meeting and even in the second meeting can last up to a month. "If you realize in the second meeting that you do not match, you have invested a lot of time and you will have to start over."
Even behavioral psychologist Jo Hemmings agrees with Benjamin but for a different reason. He sees it not only as an opportunity to get to know someone, but also as a good way to learn more about ourselves, our wants and needs.
However, not everyone is in favor of "meetings held simultaneously with different people". Sex and relationships expert Gillian Myhill, for example, believes that "if you're splitting time between several people, it can be difficult to figure out who 's right."
When is the right time to be exclusive?
As two partners become more "serious" with each other, this usually happens within 3 months, a conversation should be made to understand that both partners agree on the type of relationship they are looking for from each other. If you have been dating someone for 3 months, you have usually found that you like him or her, but problems can arise anyway. On the other hand, although 3 months may be enough for someone to understand (dis) consent, someone else may need more time and that is totally okay. There are no strict rules for this.
