Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Philip has passed away at the age of 99! The news of his death has been confirmed by Buckingham Palace itself.
According to the official announcement, Queen Elizabeth's husband passed away this morning (Friday, April 9) at Windsor Castle.
"With deep sorrow, Her Majesty the Queen announces the death of her husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh. His Majesty passed away peacefully this morning at Windsor Castle," the statement said.
His departure is a great loss to his family and also to the monarchy. British historians and many analysts believe that Prince Philip has always been one of the key to the queen's success at the helm of the kingdom for more than 69 years. The queen herself considered the 73-year-old husband as "strength and endurance".
Flags on all of Britain's historic buildings are at half-staff, while the country declared a day of mourning.
