According to a new poll, at least 46% of Americans would support Dwayne Johnson (The Rock) in the presidential race. The actor and former professional opportunity has hinted many times that politics is in his plans.
The poll found that 29% would support The Rock as president and actor Matthew McConaughey as governor of Texas, while 17% would support only The Rock.
In addition to the actor, the poll asked respondents to assess whether other celebrities should run for president. A candidacy by Angelina Jolie had the support of 30% of respondents, while 27% supported Oprah Winfrey and 22%, Tom Hanks.
In total, about 63% of respondents said that Hollywood stars would "make good politicians" if they had the "political skills" and the "right team". The survey was conducted online among 30,138 people from April 2 to April 4 and there is no information on the margin of error.
Johnson has been asked about running for president on many occasions in recent years. In 2016, he told GQ magazine that he did not rule out candidacy, calling the idea of ??being president "attractive" while noting that there were "many other things" he would like to do first. A year later, during an interview on The Ellen Show, Johnson said he was "seriously considering running for president."
In a USA Today article, published in February 2021, Johnson said a decision about his political future would depend on "the people."
"I would consider a presidential candidacy in the future, only if that is what people would want. It all depends on the people, so I will wait and listen," he said.
