After the end of the third round of voting, Vjosa Osmani was elected president of Kosovo today.
From the counting of votes in the third round (via Euronews.al) 11 votes were invalid, while 71 were for Vjosa, proving that in addition to MPs of the Self-Determination Movement (LVV), Osmani received votes from the Democratic League of Kosovo (LDK) )
In the last parliamentary elections in Kosovo, after being expelled from the LDK, Vjosa Osmani competed with LVV, which secured a convincing victory.
In August 2019, Vjosa became the first woman to run for Prime Minister of Kosovo. In November 2020, after the resignation of Hashim Thaçi, Vjosa Osmani was appointed President of Kosovo, because as provided by the Constitution of Kosovo, if the President of the country leaves his post before the mandate, then his post passes to the Speaker.
Vjosa Osmani has been described many times by people as "the woman who dared to challenge the men of the LDK", as an example of "humanism and pride" and as "the most reasonable voice in the Parliament of Kosovo".
Prior to running for Kosovo Prime Minister, Vjosa was not an unknown name in politics. After graduating from the Faculty of Law in Kosovo, Vjosa Osmani, then declared the best student, continued her Master studies at the University of Pittsburgh in the United States, where she was awarded the "Sheth International Achievement Award", an award given for the contribution of young people worldwide.
