New York has legalized adult marijuana and under the new law, all files of people previously convicted of such charges will be reviewed again.
The new legislation was signed Wednesday, officially making New York the 15th state to allow marijuana use for adults, starting at age 21.
So starting March 31, people are free to possess up to 85 grams of cannabis for personal use and not only.
When will free sales start?
This may take a year or even longer. The change will not be immediate as all legal procedures related to such an activity must first be prepared: starting from the mechanisms established by the state, the specific rules for production up to the licensing of those who will sell it.
Citizens will be allowed to drink in the same public areas where smoking is allowed. In the coming months, people will be able to bring home cannabis ordered and not only that, but they can plant it at home up to 6 planted.
According to the governor of the country, Andrew Cuomo, this event marks a historic day for New York, as only now will end harsh prison sentences creating on the other hand a profitable industry that will positively affect the economy of country.
It is expected that after this law, at least 60,000 new jobs will be created and the state will be able to generate $ 350 million from annual taxes.
