Have you heard of retinoids? You have probably encountered them somewhere as vitamin A derivatives are one of the most coveted ingredients in skin care and one of the most well-studied ingredients that help with many skin problems. If used properly, they give visible results. However, various myths often circulate about their use. Here are the 5 most common myths.
- Must be used daily to have results. In fact, you do not have to use them every day. Yes, you will see very good results even if you use them according to the needs of the skin.
- Used only for acne prone skin. Retinoids are the most universal ingredients that give excellent results for many problems, like acne, scars and other skin needs.
- Thin the skin. In fact, it is quite the opposite. As they have an exfoliating effect on the upper layer with dead skin cells, retinoids "thicken" the living layers of the skin.
- Exacerbate the skin. This can be related to the purge effect, until the skin gets used to them. They then give fantastic results on the skin, among the only (well-studied) ingredients that give visible and fast results.
- They are carcinogenic. There are zero well-studied cases where topical application of retinoids to the skin has such results in the human body. Most of these myths are circulated by brand marketing to mislead buyers towards natural / organic alternatives.
