A new directive from the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) advises that women who have been vaccinated with Covid-19 should wait about four to six weeks before having a mammogram. The new advice comes after reports that the vaccine could cause swollen lymph nodes that could be considered symptoms of cancer.
The issue was first addressed a few weeks ago after CNN published a number of stories involving women who were frightened after discovering lumps in the areas inside and around the breasts, right after they got the Covid vaccine. According to Dr. Connie Lehman, chief of imaging at Massachusetts General, radiologists across the country noticed similar stories of women seeking mammograms after vaccinations for Covid.
To prevent any inconvenience or inconvenience, the CDC instructs that:
"If you are going to have a mammogram and have recently been vaccinated for Covid-19, ask your doctor how long you should wait after getting vaccinated to get a mammogram. People who have had a vaccine for Covid-19 may have swollen lymph nodes (lymphadenopathy). This swelling is a normal sign that your body is building protection against Covid-19. However, it is possible that this swelling may cause a false mammogram reading. Some experts recommend having your mammogram done beforehand. than get vaccinated or wait four to six weeks after getting the vaccine. ”
Simply put, mammography is extremely important, but should not be scheduled within the first few weeks after a Covid-19 vaccination. Keep in mind that swollen lymph nodes can also occur after other vaccines, such as the flu.
