In their early (dark) toners were classified as a skin cleansing product. Before the white days of dual cleansing came, toner was the product with which to remove makeup residue after washing the skin with detergent. These were typical alcohol-based toners mainly for their cleansing, antiseptic function, which left the feeling of matured, drawn skin - ideal marketed for acne prone skin. Tragic.
Today there are different types of toners - from the most primitive that never evolved to fantastic toners moisturizing, soothing, exfoliating, with antioxidants, etc., which have different functions. And despite this, do they continue to be considered useless? In my opinion: it depends. Depending on the type of toner depends on the "importance" it has in everyone's routine.
If a toner containing alpha hydroxy acids (lactic, glycolic) provides the step of removing dead cells from the skin, it can not be useless. If your tonic contains salicylic acid and within 8 weeks helps reduce blackheads, in your routine it is essential. This is the reason, that in the midst of all these innovative treatments, the importance of a product no longer depends on the name it bears, but on its formulation and the problems it addresses in everyone's routine.
