Apparently, it is not reasonable to think that the world will end the Covid-19 pandemic by the end of the year, the World Health Organization warned on Monday.
WHO Emergency Director Michael Ryan said however that it could be to alleviate the coronavirus crisis by reducing hospitalizations and deaths.
But the virus remains under control, he added, especially given that the number of new global cases rose last week after six consecutive weeks of decline.
"It will be very premature and I think it is unrealistic to think we will put an end to this virus by the end of the year," Ryan told reporters. "But I think we can put an end to it, if we all try, are the hospitalizations, the deaths and the tragedy associated with this pandemic."
He added that progress could not be taken for granted and "now the virus is very much in control".
