Drug king Joaquin "El Chapo"'s wife Guzmán Loera was arrested in Virginia on Monday on charges related to her alleged involvement in international drug trafficking.
Emma Coronel Aispuro, 31, was apprehended at Dulles International Airport in the United States and is facing charges of conspiracy to distribute one kilogram or more of heroin, five kilograms or more of cocaine, 1,000 kilograms or more of marijuana and 500 grams or more methamphetamine for illegal import into the country, according to a press release from the Department of Justice in the country.
According to a criminal complaint, "there is a probable cause to believe that, at least from or around 2014 and at least on or about January 19, 2017, Emma conspired with Guzman (El Chapo) and others.
The complaint says the FBI believes she was receiving messages from 63-year-old Guzman to his lieutenants, accomplices and four sons before and while El Chapo was in a prison in Mexico.
The 31-year-old, a dual citizen of the US and Mexico, is expected to make her first appearance on Tuesday, in the US District Court in Washington, DC, through a video conference.

After Guzman's third arrest in 2016, he was under close surveillance. He was brought to New York, where he remained during his trials and sentencing. Security for Guzman's trial was so great that the Brooklyn Bridge was closed every week to allow Guzman to be transferred by a line of vehicles, accompanied by helicopters. El Chapo could only communicate with members of his legal team and was allowed several visits by his sister, but he was not allowed to meet with his wife, Coronel.
After being convicted, he signed the rights to his name so that Coronel, a former model and beauty pageant participant, could start her own El Chapo clothing line.
Guzmán and Coronel have been married since 2007. The FBI claims that Coronel's father was also a member of the El Chapo drug cartel.
