Dr. Clare Wenham, a staff member at the London School of Economics, says life in the UK will not return to normal until all the world's population has been vaccinated and that the pandemic will "dominate large areas of health by 2024".
The health expert thinks that the main reason for this is the delay in vaccinating all the people in the world.
"At the moment, the data show that it will be 2023-2024 before vaccines are distributed globally," Dr. Wenham told Sky NeWs.
The UK currently has one of the highest levels of vaccine coverage, along with Israel and the UAE, but many poor countries have not yet started immunizations.
The General Director of WHO, dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has repeatedly called for the fair distribution of vaccines and warned that a "me first" approach would prolong the pandemic as well as human and economic suffering.
Sir Jeremy Farrar, a member of the Government Emergency Scientific Advisory Group (SAGE), has also warned that vaccinating "many people in some countries, leaving the virus unchecked in large parts of the world, will lead to the emergence of more variants. ”
