Acne is a common skin condition that affects almost 10% of the world's population.
Many factors contribute to the development of acne, including the production of sebum, bacteria causing acne, hormones, clogged pores and so on.
The link between diet and acne has been controversial, but recent studies show that diet can play an important role in the development of acne.
Here are 7 types of foods that can cause acne:
# 1 - Refined sugars and grains
Foods rich in refined carbohydrates include:
Bread, biscuits, cereals or cakes made with white flour
Pasta made with white flour
White rice and rice noodles
Fizzy drinks
One study found that people who consumed these types of sugars more often had a 30% higher risk of developing acne, while those who ate sweets regularly had a 20% higher risk.
However, more studies are needed.
# 2 - Dairy products
Many studies have found a link between dairy products and acne in teens.
Two studies also found that young adults who regularly consumed milk or ice cream were four times more likely to suffer from acne.
However, the studies conducted so far have not been of sufficient quality.
Although there is speculation as to why drinking milk can worsen acne, it is unclear whether dairy consumption plays a direct role.
#3 – Ushqimi i shpejtë (Fast Food)
Diets that contain large amounts of omega-6 fatty acids, like the typical western diet, have been linked to increased levels of inflammation and acne.
While the links between omega-6 fatty acids and acne are promising, there have been no randomly controlled studies on the subject and more research is needed.
# 5 - Chocolate
Chocolate has been a suspected cause of acne since the 1920s, but so far, no consensus has been reached.
Some informal surveys have linked eating chocolate to an increased risk of developing acne, but this is not enough to prove that chocolate causes acne.
While recent research supports a link between chocolate consumption and acne, it remains unclear whether chocolate actually causes acne.
