In an interview with Wake Up, Erida Nelaj, head of the vaccination department at the Institute of Public Health, says that "the Pfizer / Bio NTech vaccine has been a challenge worldwide".
Asked why a stadium-like environment was chosen to create the first anti-Covid center, she said:
"It is important to first store at -18 degrees and we are calm because we already have the capacity to store them properly.
The vaccine can be used for up to 5 days and requires people to gather, so that the doses do not go to waste and we could not gather people in a health center.
So, an open environment and a "waiting room" hospital would not be the right solution.
Mrs. Nelaj says that with other vaccines, even in this case, one person can be vaccinated with one ampoule.
"Theoretically, 6 doses are contained, but counting the losses, 5 doses come out."
Of the approximately 20,000 people who are part of the health staff, the first to be vaccinated are approximately 4,000.
"This is because in the first 10,000 doses we have to keep in mind that vaccination requires two doses and we have to implement the protocol, which means: To vaccinate 5000 people and to save 5000 doses, which are intended for the elderly living in care homes along with staff in these locations.
"While during February comes the next amount, with 30,000 doses and other groups will enter, again the elderly 75-80 years old and meanwhile, the level of age groups is gradually decreasing."
Priority will continue to be given to the chronically ill.
After the 500,000 doses provided by Pfizer, Erida Nelaj says that other doses from Covax will be taken, which may be like "Pfizer or Modem, we do not know yet".
Meanwhile, in February, another 30,000 doses are expected to arrive.
