The European drug regulator has approved the use of the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine against coronavirus, paving the way for the vaccination process to begin across Europe within the next few days.
A number of EU countries, including Germany, France, Austria and Italy, have said they plan to start vaccination programs for the most vulnerable groups by Sunday, as the US and UK begin vaccination this month. .
The Amsterdam-based European Medicines Agency (EMA) announced the decision the day after the scheduled date, December 29, following pressure from several EU member states to speed up the process, including Germany.
The EMA decision was followed by the final approval of the European Commission.
