Silvia Bino, head of the epidemiology department at the IPH during the last interview spoke about the strategy that our country is pursuing regarding the provision of vaccine against Covid-19.
So far, Bino said the Committee of Experts is evaluating different scenarios for the supply of vaccines in the country, but so far no decision has been made.
"One scenario is for the PFIZER (BioNTech-Pfizer) vaccine that seeks to be stored at -80 degrees Celsius and requires an investment in a new infrastructure; the other scenario is for the Corona vaccine produced by Moderna that requires "more investments; the third scenario is for the vaccine produced by the company AstraAzeka, for which Albania has the capacities and there should be only a few additions. However, receiving vaccines from Johnson & Johnson or other companies is not excluded." - said Bino.
Regarding the start of vaccination, the head of the IPH said that it is expected to start in the first 3 months of 2021, while experts have identified the groups that prioritize receiving this vaccine more than others.
"The Committee of Vaccination Experts has identified as priority groups health workers, residents and employees of long-term care institutions and then persons over 75 years, those over 65 years, persons younger than 65 years with concomitant diseases and staff of critical services. "
The good news according to her is that during the last 4 weeks, a stability of the Covid-19 situation in the country has been noticed, but it is important that the measures are implemented accurately even during the holidays.
