Europe could follow the UK example and adopt a Covid-19 vaccine in the coming weeks. Experts say up to 70% of the population needs to be vaccinated in order for Covid to be brought under control. So how confident are Europeans in vaccines and will they be willing to do so when it becomes available?
Numerous polls show that Europeans are among the most skeptical about vaccines. A recent survey of more than 13,400 people in 19 countries found that people in Poland, for example, reported the most negative responses as to whether or not they would get the vaccine.
France is also one of the most skeptical countries, with only 59% stating that if there is to be a vaccine for Covid-19 which proves to be safe and effective, it will do so.
Sweden, Germany and Spain also showed more skepticism than other developed countries like the United States and South Korea.
The survey results are largely in line with a 2019 global survey by the nonprofit organization Wellcome and the Vaccine Trust Project which found that European countries are less likely to trust vaccines.
