The 90-year-old, the first in the world to get the Pfizer vaccine

A 90-year-old woman has become the first patient in the world to get the Pfizer vaccine for Covid-19 after its approval in the UK. The National Health Service (NHS) launched its largest vaccination campaign this Tuesday (December 8th).

Margaret Keenan took the first dose around 6.45am in Coventry, marking the start of a historic mass vaccination program.

"I feel so privileged to be the first person vaccinated against Covid-19, it is the most beautiful birthday present I could wish for because it means I can finally spend time with my family and friends in the New Year as I have only been for most of the year, "she said.

The NHS chief executive in England, Simon Stevens, said it was a historic moment and "the first step in the largest vaccination program the country has ever seen".

Margaret is one of 400,000 people who will receive the first batch of 800,000 doses of the vaccine and receive a booster dose in 21 days.

The Pfizer vaccine should be stored at -70 degrees Celsius before thawing and use. The United Kingdom became the first Western nation to adopt a vaccine against Covid-19. The vaccine of the American pharmaceutical company Pfizer and the German company BioNTech was approved for urgent use by the Regulatory Authority for Drugs and Health Care Products (MHRA).
