Headache is a common condition that causes discomfort in the head and neck area. Studies say that 7 in 10 people have at least one headache each year.
Headaches can sometimes be mild, but in many cases, they can cause severe pain that makes it difficult to concentrate at work and perform other daily activities. Fortunately, most headaches can be managed with medication or other solutions, such as staying outdoors.
Most headaches are not symptoms of a life-threatening illness. However, you should contact your doctor if you happen to have pain after a head trauma. You should also call your doctor if the headache is accompanied by the following symptoms:
- drowsiness
- fever
- vomiting
- numbness of the face - slurred
speech
- weakness in one arm or leg
- convulsions
- confusion
