Elena Pagu, a woman from Romania who started running only in her late 50s, wants to take part in the European Master Athletics Championships in Portugal, which was canceled due to the pandemic and could take place in January of the year 2021.
"Running for me is a way of life, more than a hobby," she told Euronews. "It's something I started doing at the age of 57."
"Somehow I realized I was experiencing depression after I quit my job and retired, so running became a good substitute [for work]. "I have been taught to walk long distances since childhood, when to go to high school I had to walk 14 km every day."
Elena has won numerous medals and trophies in running competitions around the world. But she says she is more interested in just having an active life.
The secret of her longevity, according to Elena, is, in addition to good genes, hard work, being active, persistent and ~ a little wine ~.
"I'm happy that at my age I do not need to take medication. What I do is drink half a glass of wine in the evening after dinner."
