The head of the World Health Organization said today (Monday, November 16) that a vaccine would not stop the coronavirus pandemic.
"A vaccine will complement the other tools we have, but it will not replace them," said Tedros general manager Adhanom Ghebreyesus. "A vaccine will not end the pandemic."
Tedros added that vaccine supplies will initially be limited and priority will be given to health workers, the elderly and other people at risk. Next, the head of the WHO stressed that "surveillance will have to continue, people will have to be tested, isolated and cared for, contacts will have to be tracked."
