Joe Biden is officially the new president of the United States.
However, outgoing President Donald Trump is not accepting this amicably.
Following the result, Trump issued a statement saying "this election is not over" and that he and his team would take the matter to court.
The Trump statement reads:
"We all know why Joe Biden is in such a hurry to present himself as a winner and why his allies in the media are trying so hard to help him: They do not want the truth to be revealed. The simple fact is that these elections are not over! ”
Donald Trump added:
"Starting Monday, our campaign will begin prosecuting our case in court to ensure that election laws are fully upheld and a legitimate winner is decided."
Trump's team has already filed a number of lawsuits alleging vote rigging in key "battlefield" states, but no evidence has been presented. Some states have dismissed the lawsuits.
Before Biden's victory was announced, Trump left the White House to play golf.
Although the outgoing president does not have to accept it, this is an early tradition, which is considered to be a "seal of peaceful transfer of power", reports The Guardian.
